What is it for
The Method can benefit every practitioner on different levels. By improving the quality of the movement, it is possible to move more consciously and safely, to derive the maximum benefit in terms of sensations and beauty from a natural and flawless movement, or to increase one’s performance thanks to the effectiveness of the techniques and the precision of motor execution.
All sports disciplines are based on the development of abilities – both general and specific – that allow for improving movement, making it increasingly efficient, ergonomic, and precise.
In climbing, the Caruso Method works on the principles that are the foundation of the ideal movement in the vertical dimension, on rock and ice: these principles have allowed the definition of the best techniques and progressions for the development of motor capacity and intelligence.
Regarding skiing, while the knowledge of downhill techniques on the piste has been deepened by the FISI, there was still much to be done for ski mountaineering and off-piste skiing. The Method has made a significant step forward in understanding and thus teaching the principles that allow for precise weight management on skis, which is essential for the greater safety required in ski mountaineering, as well as the ability to adapt to all situations and different snow conditions, which are characteristic of untracked snow.
Until not long ago, and still largely today, the only way to teach climbing was to convey the sequence of movements that allowed for solving individual passages on individual routes: “Put your foot here, then your hand there, try to pull yourself up”…and so on. One would climb without knowing and without understanding. Only the repetition over time of countless movements allowed for the increase of one’s motor intelligence, but mostly, to perform increasingly difficult moves, one relied almost exclusively on strength. Being strong is certainly positive, but wasting strength by moving “randomly”, or poorly, is foolish. Also, by optimizing the effort, the performance level increases. But apart from being strong, it is evident that being capable and skillful is even more important: in addition to the development of conditional capacities (strength, endurance, etc.), it is known that technical and coordinative abilities are the most important for everyone at any level. In fact, they are the key to the fundamental formative elements of the human being in general, from health prevention to knowledge, from the effectiveness of the movement to motor intelligence, from body balance to psychophysical balance.
